- The White
House Clear Skies Initiative to cut power plant emissions by 70
percent; cut sulfur dioxide emissions by 73 percent; cut nitrogen
oxide emissions by 67 percent; cap emissions of mercury, cutting them
by 69 percent; all completed in two phases, with one set of emission
limits for 2010 and for the other for 2018.
- The
White House Hydrogen Initiative, envisioning the transition to a
hydrogen economy.

White House Climate Change Initiative for cutting our nation's
greenhouse gas intensity by 18 percent over the next 10 years.
The
Global Climate Change Policy Book, which explains that the Climate
Change Initiative includes proposals for improvements to the current
voluntary emission reduction registration program under section
1605(b) of the 1992 Energy Policy Act; Transferable Credits for
Emissions Reduction; and Responding with additional measures that may
include a broad, market-based program as well as additional incentives
and voluntary measures designed to accelerate technology development
and deployment.
- The
White House FutureGen project. A Feb. 27, 2003 announcement that
the United States is sponsoring, with international and private-sector
partners, a $1 billion, 10-year demonstration project to create the
world’s first coal-based, zero-emissions electricity and hydrogen
